Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawls Header

“Shawls…made for centuries, universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed as if given wings to fly above their troubles…”  – Janet Bristow, 1998

Prayer shawls are not for sale, they may only be given with love and prayers. This is an outreach ministry that is meant to encourage, comfort, and even celebrate with those around us within our church community, our families and our greater communities. baby prayer blankets available—they are all in progress! Prayer shawls are made prayerfully over long periods of time due to the care that goes into the handwork. We do currently have prayer squares available to be given as needed. They are smaller (about 4-5″ square) with either a heart or cross knitted into the design and are enjoyed since they can be tucked into a pocket or purse or under a pillow.

If you know of someone who may benefit from this ministry, please contact the church office with your suggestion.

St. Matthew’s Prayer Shawl Ministry provided hats, booties and prayer squares for the babies and mamas who visit the clinic at the YWAM-Mwandege base in Tanzania.  These gifts were hand-carried to Tanzania by Dr. Pamela Follett as part of Wezesha Kupaa’s outreach.
