The whole point of our religion is simply to become more loving. This is our true “Reformation.” It begins in letting God love us as God does: deeply, steadfastly, viscerally, fiercely, no matter what.
We belong to God. The purpose of life is to give ourselves back.
It is human nature to look back at our past when we are anxious. Like, the Israelites, we make idols of the Church we remember – and sometimes, we “weep and gnash” our teeth that things have changed. But God invites us to resist the pull of “idols” and focus on the the Church in this place and time.
The ten Commandments are not laws we have to follow or be punished. They’re a description of what it looks like to live in Covenant with God– like marriage vows.
God never leaves anybody out. Our ministry is to include those whom society has excluded. That work starts within, as we acknowledge and overcome our own exclusions.
Faith is a life-long process of learning to let go and trust God to love us, accompany us, care for us and provide for us, regardless of our sense of “deserving.” Trust that God wants you to thrive.
To forgive we begin by forgiving ourselves, allowing ourselves to be hurt. In Christ’s love we receive the hurt without needing to pass it on. This is the love that changes the world.
As followers of Jesus we’re students: continually learning and growing. What we’re learning is not information but a way of living, and the only way to learn it is in community. Christ’s living presence leads us, in our relationships.
