Children and Youth

Children & Youth Sunday School for Pre-K through High School Children and Youth
Every Sunday from 9:15am – 10:15 am
Children and Youth Discipleship focuses on storytelling, journaling, and activities to help us grow in faith, hope, and love together. We aim to be imaginative, inclusive, and intergenerational. Parents and Caregivers are always invited to participate.

You do not need to register in advance to come, but if you wish to give us a heads-up, or have questions, please reach out to our Directory Sydney Novais at cyf@saint-matthews.org. We welcome you warmly to St. Matthew’s!

Nursery
The nursery is open for children 0-6 years old. We have a bright, airy room staffed by professionals during Sunday School and Service hours (9 am – noon) on Sundays. You are of course welcome to bring your child to the Service in the Sanctuary at 10:30 am. If you need a little more privacy during the Service, you can also use the Family Room in the Sanctuary so you can see and hear the Service while caring for your baby.

Youth and Teen Focus
Youth contribute a great deal to the current life of our church and constitute its future. Our youth are some of our most engaged, honest, spiritually curious, open-minded disciples. They’re moving beyond the work of childhood, which is seeking answers, to the adult work of forming better questions. The church’s role is to demonstrate and encourage an intentional lifelong faith journey for youth.

Children and youth are warmly welcome to participate in the life of the church:
Sunday School – Assisting with and attending.
Worship – as Musicians, Acolytes, Ushers, Greeters, Lay Readers and Assistants.
Ministry Teams – Serving as members.
Festival of Sharing and other events – Volunteers.
Mission Trips, Retreats & Summer Camps – Assisting with and attending.
Vacation Bible School – Assisting with and attending.

If you wish to have more information on how to connect yourself or your child, please reach out to Directory Sydney Novais at cyf@saint-matthews.org.

Confirmation Class (9th-12th Graders)
Our Confirmation Class is offered every other year. Led by Rev. Chun, and multiple adult mentors, this class offers older teens time to dig deep, think hard and ask questions about:

  • What it means to be a Christian
  • What it means to belong to a Church
  • What is this thing called Faith
  • What does the United Methodist Church offer me in my Faith Journey and why should I care
  • And other topics that teens may wonder about as they head toward adulthood and consider their spiritual needs and the gifts that they have to offer the world.

We hope all youth find a place here, welcomed for who they are and what they bring to the community. Through worship, service, and opportunities to learn, we invite them to grow into more of who God has created them to be.
