Spiritual Life Retreat: Growing a Heart of Peace – May 3-5
Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and bless those who curse us. How do we grow a heart of peace that enables us to be gentle but firm in seeking justice, to be loving in conflicted relationships, and to endure other people’s bad behavior without stooping to the same level? What is it in our relationship with God that can shape our hearts into hearts of peace? How can we bear into this hurtful world the love that hopes all things and endures all things?
Imagine Jesus teaching and healing in the midst of a mob jostling and pressing in on him. “All the crowd were trying to touch Jesus, for power came out from him and healed all of them” (Luke 6.19). How did he maintain his peace in that pressure? How did he radiate healing and not anxiety? How can we develop such a heart of radiant peace?
Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5 we will retreat from the pressures and conflicts of our daily lives and place ourselves deep in the peace of God, where we might be healed, changed and empowered to live lives of peace and love that radiate out from us and heal the people around us. The retreat is at the Marie Joseph Center in Biddeford, Maine https://mariejosephspiritual.org/ and will be led by Pastor Steve.
Cost is $235 and is due upon registration. Checks can be made out to St. Matthew’s and put in the Sunday offering or mailed to the church. Please clearly note on the check that this is for the retreat. We begin with Friday dinner and end with Sunday lunch. All adults and high school students are welcome.
