March Matters – Collection for Dignity Matters

March Matters

DId you know that you can buy candy with food stamps but women can not buy sanitary necessities with them.

Dignity Matters is an organization that collects, purchases and supplies feminine hygiene products, bras and underwear to women and girls experiencing homelessness or living in poverty in Massachusetts.  Their mission is to help them stay healthy, regain self-confidence, and live with basic dignity.  There are over 22,000 homeless women and girls in Massachusetts who have little or no access to period protection every month.  Food stamps do not cover feminine hygiene products and shelters do not have the funds to provide them.  Dignity Matters is currently providing sanitary supplies to 9000 women each month which is a large increase from last year, prompted by the pandemic.

For the First Sunday is Food Sunday in March, we are asking that you instead bring women’s sanitary items to donate.  There will be a bin identified with a Dignity Matters sign right next to the food cart where you can leave your donations. We will also have a bin at the back door. The priority currently is for sanitary pads/tampons (any kind) and incontinence items such as Poise or Depends (or store brands).  New underwear (with store tags) and new or slightly used bras in all sizes & styles & brands are also needed.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to donate online by going to their Amazon Wishlist  which will allow you to purchase items there and send them directly to the Dignity Matters warehouse.  Be sure to click on the Dignity Matters address. You also can have them delivered to you and then bring them to the church.

If you would like more information, please go to their website  https://www.dignity-matters.org

Please help us make this a true March Matters and donate what you can to this very worthwhile cause.

Thank you,

The Mission, Outreach, and Advocacy team
