Virtual Meeting: Saint Matthew’s Reconciling Congregation Status, Necessity, History, Future

CONFIRMED DATE: The event will be on May 26 at 7:00 PM.
The next General Conference may result in splitting the Methodist Church into two groups: one group that maintains that “homosexuality is contrary to Christian teaching,” and another group that accepts LGBTQIA+ persons as God’s beloved children, having full standing in the church. So we, as a reconciling congregation, we may soon formally become separated from other Methodist churches that continue to discriminate against LGBTQIA+ persons and clergy.

If the previous statements leave you wondering why the split might occur, or what LGBTQIA+ means, or how our church became “reconciling,” or what reconciling means, or why any of this is important, we invite you to attend a virtual event which could answer some of your questions.

The event will be about 45 to 60 minutes long, and will address three topics: Basic information about LGBTQIA+ persons and issues that effect their lives, how and why Saint Matthew’s became a reconciling church, and the more than twenty years of discussion and church politics that have led to the likely imminent split of the Methodist church. There will be time to answer questions that attendees may have and for a short discussion. And, if warranted, another event will be organized to accommodate an in-depth discussion and extensive Q & A session. Please join us:
