OLD TESTAMENT – Deuteronomy 31.7-8
[Israel has been wandering in the wilderness for 40 years; now they will cross over into the Promised Land, but Moses will not come with them. So Moses instructs to Joshua to lead the people onward.]
Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: “Be strong and bold, for you are the one who will go with this people into the land that God has sworn to their ancestors to give them; and you will put them in possession of it. It is God who goes before you. God will be with you; God will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

NEW TESTAMENT – 1 Corinthians 12.1-13, 27
[Paul peaks of the church as a body, with various parts that each have different spiritual gifts.]
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but one Christ; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

GOSPEL – Matthew 28.6-12
[After Jesus’ resurrection, in preparation for his final departure, Jesus gives instructions to his followers to go on in ministry.]
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
