Lobby Day in Washington DC

Have you ever wanted to tell your senators and representative to do the right thing? You’ll have that chance on June 11-12, when Bread for the World hosts its annual Lobby Day in Washington DC. Will you join us this year?

St. Matthew’s supports Bread for the World because it is a uniquely effective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to do their part to end hunger at home and abroad. Lobby Day is an opportunity to communicate one-on- one with our members of Congress and their staffs. When activists visit Capitol Hill in large numbers, all at the same time and around the same issue, they have a better chance of their advocacy being heard. The last time we attended Bread’s Lobby Day was 2014, when Lynne Osborne, Peggy Papanastassiou, and Betsy Comstock lobbied with others from Massachusetts.

Lobby Day 2014

Lobby Day 2014 (recognize anyone?)

This year’s Lobby Day is focused on urging Congress to make funding decisions that will end hunger by 2030. The event will stretch over two days. There will be a dinner and legislative briefing on June 11. The following day, on June 12, a morning gathering and breakfast will take place ahead of Capitol Hill visits with members of Congress. In addition to lobbying, the St. Matthew’s delegation will be hand-delivering our offering of letters. The day will end with an evening reception, including awards given out to legislators, and a worship service where participants can share with others about their day.
