The Beatitudes: Map of the Faithful Heart

The Beatitudes are Jesus’ manifesto of grace. They are more essential to our faith than the Ten Commandments. They are the key that unlocks a door into a whole new way of living. Taken as a whole they are a sort of “map” of Christian faith that shows the way through the anxieties of real life and its fragile and dangerous places, toward deep communion with God, with one’s self, and with the human community and all Creation. They also provide a great introduction to Matthew’s gospel, which is the gospel we will hear the most from in the coming year in worship. We will explore the beatitudes and various related scriptures, in a weekly adult class led by Pastor Steve and Diane Anders, at 9:15 Sunday mornings in the downstairs classroom.
