Pastor’s reflection: Annunciation

Dearly Beloved,

Grace and Peace to you.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.”
          — Luke 1.30

You feel like you’re ringing the doorbell
of an abandoned house, but
friend, you are perfectly familiar here.

You feel like you’re standing at a stop
waiting for a bus that no longer runs.
But this is not true, my love.

Light a candle in the night.
I am there, in the dark within you,
which you have hidden from yourself.

I yearn for you, for years have prayed for you
to come to me in your own secret place,
to cradle my quiet heart pangs,

for our longings, like lost lovers,
to find each other
and make sweet love in this waiting world.

The darkness will vanish if you close your eyes,
turn toward me, open and still,
and say yes.

Deep Blessings,
Pastor Steve
